Equo SDK 1.0.0 - Tornado Release

I am really excited to announce that the first release of Equo SDK, 1.0.0, "tornado", is officially here. We started working on the initial ideas a few years ago and since then, have put a massive effort into creating Equo SDK and its related products.

What started as an experiment based on our already successful product Equo Chromium, has turned into a new cross-platform development SDK, one that is focused on modern desktop and embedded applications. Equo SDK is a huge step forward for developers and organizations who want to create native cross-platform desktop and embedded applications with a web frontend, and for those who want to modernize their existing desktop apps.

Getting to "1.0.0" over the last months has been about more than features. We have worked very hard to get the core functionality that allows developers to create their applications. We pushed hard on getting the best development experience, and we will continue to do so. We did our best to align every company project to this release. Some of the projects we've been working on, and that we are also releasing today along with Equo SDK are:

  • Equo CLI: Provides a set of commands to help developers build and manage Equo applications smoothly.
  • Equo Editor: a web-based Language Server Protocol editor that can be easily integrated in any desktop IDE or application. It was developed using our own technology, like Equo Chromium and Equo SDK.
  • A new documentation website that contains information and guides about Equo SDK, Equo Chromium, and Equo Editor.
  • A completely refreshed website.
  • We have of course spent time developing numerous features and improvements in other areas. I suggest you look at the more detailed documentation website to see all the features our first Equo SDK release provides.

Furthermore, we have open-sourced all of our projects, which comprises Equo SDK, Equo Chromium, Equo Editor, and many others. You can check them out at https://github.com/equodev. We strongly believe that developers deserve a platform which allows them to create modern web-based client applications (desktop and embedded), and that the Open Source community is the best way to foster collaboration and achieve it.

    We Need your Feedback

We encourage you to get started with Equo SDK. You can also follow this step-by-step tutorial on how to create your first app. We really appreciate your feedback, which is invaluable in order to get a better development experience.

We would also love to hear about your experiences working with our SDK, and the apps you create, so please, share them with us, we love seeing new Equo apps!

Looking Ahead: More than Just a SDK

While we’re excited about releasing Equo SDK 1.0.0 today, we are even more excited about the future.

Of course, we will continue to focus on expanding the core functionality of Equo SDK and enriching its API. Stability, compatibility, and performance are very important for our users, and they are to us as well. We will continue to invest in improving the SDK and the developer experience, guided by the great community feedback on Github and Discord.

At the same time, I will be opening up some comments of our App Manager services.

Making a client application (desktop or embedded) is one thing, getting it out there is another. Imagine a platform that handles the whole application distribution for you, a platform where you could only focus on growing your core business and not in all the tasks that distract you from it. That's why we are creating App Manager. From auto-generated native installers to live application updates, analytics, logging, automated testing, security, and CI/CD, App Manager addresses the entire lifecycle of a client application.

If you want to be an early adopter of App Manager, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Until Next Time

Equo SDK, along with the whole Equo Platform, is a product created by developers, for developers. Our mission is to make developers life easier, by providing them with the right tools for the whole software development life cycle.

We will continue to work with our customers and the community to improve our development platform. We will continue to work with you, our user, to build a great SDK for you, and for every developer.

If you haven’t tried out Equo SDK yet, please download it and let us know what you think!
